Tesla Drops Its Solar Roof Tiles, Switches to Standard Panels
Tesla told its installers on August 20, 2026, that it will only sell standard solar panels, ending the Solar Roof — tiles that replace a roof while generating power. Launched in 2016, it reached about 3,000 U.S. homes, far below the 1,000-per-week goal. Tesla now plans a $10 billion panel factory near Houston.
