Tesla Discontinues Solar Roof, Shifts to Conventional Panels Only
Tesla informed its third-party installer network on August 20, 2026, that it will only supply conventional solar panels going forward, discontinuing the Solar Roof tile product it launched in 2016. The company concluded Solar Roof was not financially viable. Only about 3,000 U.S. homes received installations against a target of 1,000 per week. Tesla now plans a $10 billion panel factory near Houston.
