Panama Canal to Reduce Daily Ship Transits Starting September

The Panama Canal Authority will cut daily ship transits from 36 to 32 by mid-September, removing roughly 11% of capacity on a waterway handling 14,000 ships yearly and generating $3bn for Panama. The Authority cited safeguarding drinking water as El Niño, intensified by climate change, threatens the rainfall feeding the canal's lock system.
