NZDF personnel learned of Korea exercise cutback through media, not official channels

Nineteen NZ Defence Force personnel in South Korea for Exercise Ulchi Freedom Shield found out through media reports that the US-led exercise would be cut short by six days — not through any direct notification. Foreign Minister Winston Peters called it "a surprise." NZDF says it still lacks enough detail from US authorities to assess impacts on future activities.
