NZ soldiers in Korea found out about exercise cutback from the news

Nineteen New Zealand Defence Force personnel were in South Korea for a joint military exercise led by the United States. They learned the exercise would be shortened by six days from news reports — not from military or government channels. Foreign Minister Winston Peters said it was "a surprise." NZDF says it still doesn't have enough information to know what it means for future activities.
