Ghent suspends US researcher who accused late Cambridge professor of plagiarism

Ghent University suspended postdoctoral researcher Nathan Cofnas on August 20, 2026, pending a discrimination investigation. Cofnas led plagiarism accusations against Jason Arday, Cambridge's youngest-ever Black professor, who resigned August 5 and was found dead August 14. Ghent's rector said academic freedom "is not unlimited." Cofnas expects dismissal.
