Ghent University suspends US academic who accused late Cambridge professor Jason Arday of plagiarism

Ghent University suspended postdoctoral researcher Nathan Cofnas on August 20, 2026, pending a preliminary disciplinary investigation into discrimination. Cofnas led plagiarism accusations against Jason Arday, Cambridge's youngest-ever Black professor, who resigned August 5 and was found dead at his London home on August 14. Ghent's rector said academic freedom "is not unlimited." Cofnas expects dismissal.
