US Begins Deporting Third-Country Nationals to Liberia Under Major Removal Deal

Twenty deportees arrived in Liberia on August 20, the first batch under a US agreement to accept up to 1,200 third-country nationals — people removed to a country not their own — over the next year. They come from across Africa, the Americas, and the Caribbean. Liberia's justice minister says deportees may seek asylum there.
