US Sends First Deportees to Liberia Under 1,200-Person Third-Country Removal Deal

Twenty deportees arrived in Liberia on August 20, the first tranche under a US agreement to accept up to 1,200 third-country nationals over the next year from across Africa, the Americas, and the Caribbean. Liberia's justice minister says deportees may seek asylum there. The deal is among the largest third-country removal accords reached by the Trump administration.
