Privacy Groups Ask Maryland AG to Probe Data Brokers' Location Data Sales to Police

Twelve privacy and civil rights groups filed a complaint August 19, 2026, urging Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown to investigate data brokers including Penlink, Thomson Reuters, Motorola, LexisNexis and Flock Safety. The groups said the companies sold Maryland residents' location data to law enforcement, violating state privacy law. Penlink and Thomson Reuters told NPR they comply with the law.
