Privacy Groups Say Companies Sold Marylanders' Location Data to Police

Twelve groups asked Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown on August 19, 2026, to investigate companies that track people's locations and sell that data to police. The groups named Penlink, Thomson Reuters, Motorola, LexisNexis and Flock Safety, saying the sales broke state privacy law. Penlink and Thomson Reuters told NPR they follow the law.
