Privacy Groups Urge Maryland AG to Investigate Data Brokers Over Law Enforcement Location Data Sales

Twelve privacy and civil rights groups filed a complaint with Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown on August 19, 2026, urging an investigation of data brokers including Penlink, Thomson Reuters, Motorola, LexisNexis and Flock Safety for allegedly selling Maryland residents' location data to law enforcement in violation of state privacy law. Penlink and Thomson Reuters told NPR they comply with the law.
