Goldmine Collapse in Central African Republic Kills Over 100
A landslide buried an artisanal — or small-scale, informal — goldmine in Zamboye, western CAR, on August 18. Red Cross and mining association sources report over 100 dead, with many still trapped. A local youth council member called the chance of finding survivors "a miracle." The toll more than doubles all CAR mining deaths recorded this year. Authorities are investigating.
