Over 100 Dead in Artisanal Goldmine Collapse in Central African Republic
A landslide buried an artisanal goldmine in Zamboye, western CAR, on August 18, killing more than 100 people, according to Red Cross and mining association sources. Many remain trapped; a local youth council member said finding survivors alive "would be a miracle." The toll exceeds twice all CAR mining deaths recorded this year. Authorities have launched an investigation.
