Over 100 Killed When Gold Mine Collapses in Central African Republic

On August 18, a wall of earth collapsed on an informal, hand-dug gold mine in Zamboye, western Central African Republic. The Red Cross and a mining group say over 100 people died and many remain trapped. A local official said finding anyone alive "would be a miracle." The death toll is more than double all the country's mining deaths so far this year. Authorities are investigating.
