UK's biggest water reuse system stays offline through 2026 drought

The UK's largest water reuse system, in Cambridgeshire's Eddington development, has sat unused since 2021. The Drinking Water Inspectorate — the body that regulates tap water safety — deems it non-compliant. Cambridge Water built it to save residents 25 litres per person daily. As the 2026 drought triggers hosepipe bans across Greater Cambridgeshire, the system remains switched off.
