UK's largest water reuse system sits idle through 2026 drought over regulatory non-compliance

The UK's largest water reuse system, built into the Eddington development in Cambridgeshire, has sat idle since 2021 because the Drinking Water Inspectorate deems it non-compliant with regulations. Cambridge Water installed the system, which could save residents 25 litres per person daily. It remains switched off as the 2026 summer drought forced hosepipe bans across Greater Cambridgeshire.
