Comcast Adds Free Wi-Fi Motion Sensing to Millions of Existing Routers

Comcast is adding Wi-Fi motion sensing to Xfinity Shield, a free service for all Xfinity customers. An August 18, 2026 app update activates the feature on XB7-or-newer gateways — hardware deployed since 2020. Linksys launched and later discontinued a similar paid service. Comcast's bet: zero acquisition cost and a massive installed base change the economics.
