Comcast Ships Free Wi-Fi Motion Sensing to Millions of Existing Gateways

Comcast is bundling Wi-Fi motion sensing into Xfinity Shield, a free tier for all Xfinity customers. An app update arriving August 18, 2026 enables the feature on XB7-or-newer gateways, hardware deployed since 2020. Linksys launched and later discontinued a similar paid service. Comcast's bet: zero acquisition cost and an existing installed base change the economics.
