Comcast Will Turn Your Home Wi-Fi Router Into a Motion Sensor — for Free

Comcast is adding motion sensing to Xfinity Shield, a free service for all Xfinity customers. The technology uses your home Wi-Fi signals to detect movement. An August 18, 2026 app update turns it on for routers deployed since 2020. Linksys tried a similar paid service and later shut it down. Comcast's bet: free and pre-installed changes the math.
