Fatal School Shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga Junior High

On August 18, 2026, a student at Ateneo de Zamboanga University's junior high campus in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City, fatally shot a classmate before killing himself. Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso said the suspect carried two firearms and wore a body camera to livestream the attack. School shootings are rare in the Philippines. Authorities say the incident is still being resolved.
