Massive Fire Hits Fuel Depot in Iraq's Kurdistan Region

A fire swept through a fuel storage depot in Tanjaro, near Sulaimaniyah in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, just before midnight on August 18. It destroyed 38 fuel tankers — 34 carrying petrol, four carrying gas-oil (a diesel-type fuel) — and consumed over 3 million litres. At least 20 people suffered minor injuries. The blaze is under control; its cause remains unclear. Officials expect regional petrol prices to hold steady.
