DR Congo's 2026 Ebola outbreak is now the country's deadliest on record

The 2026 Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has killed 2,325 people across 4,945 confirmed cases, surpassing the 2018–2020 outbreak as the country's deadliest. Declared in May in Ituri province and caused by the Bundibugyo virus species, it has reached six provinces. The WHO called transmission "exceptional."
