DR Congo Ebola outbreak becomes deadliest in country's history with 2,325 deaths

DR Congo's 2026 Ebola outbreak has killed 2,325 people across 4,945 confirmed cases as of Sunday, surpassing the 2018–2020 outbreak to become the deadliest in the country's history. Declared in May in Ituri province and caused by the Bundibugyo virus species, it has spread to six provinces. The WHO described transmission as "exceptional."
