DNC Sets 2028 Early Primary Calendar: South Carolina First, Iowa Out

The Democratic National Committee voted August 15 to approve a six-state early primary calendar for 2028. South Carolina's January 22 primary leads the schedule. Iowa, which opened Democratic nominating contests for decades, was excluded entirely. Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Michigan and Virginia round out the early states, the Associated Press reported.
