DNC Approves 2028 Primary Calendar: South Carolina Leads, Iowa Excluded

The Democratic National Committee voted August 15 to approve a six-state early primary calendar for 2028, with South Carolina's primary on January 22 as the leadoff contest. Iowa, which opened Democratic nominating contests for decades, was excluded from the early window entirely. Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Michigan and Virginia round out the early states, the Associated Press reported.
