Twelve killed as Polish bus overturns on Hungary's M3 motorway; driver held

A Polish tour bus carrying 59 people overturned on Hungary's M3 motorway near Budapest at roughly 01:00 on 16 August 2026, killing twelve and injuring 47. Police suspect the driver fell asleep; he is in custody. Cranes lifted the 24-tonne vehicle to free 35 trapped passengers. One victim remains in life-threatening condition.
