Body Found in Romania Likely Missing British Hiker After Nine-Month Search

A body found in Romania's Bucegi Mountains is believed to be George Smyth, an 18-year-old Bristol University geology student from Newport, Shropshire. Police confirmed the discovery on 15 August 2026. Smyth went missing on 23 November 2025 after calling emergency services in severe weather, disoriented and showing signs of hypothermia — dangerously low body temperature.
