Apple Seeks Lower External Payment Commission After Contempt Finding

Apple asked a federal judge to let it collect 5–15% on purchases made through external payment links, down from the 12–27% it charged after a 2021 injunction. The tiered proposal sets 5% for small businesses, 10% for partner programs and subscription renewals, and 15% for top-revenue developers. Apple was found in contempt last year for continuing to charge external-payment fees. An appeals court overturned the fee ban, returning the matter to the district court. The case is also before the Supreme Court under docket 25-1311.
