Apple Proposes Smaller Cut of App Payments Made Outside Its Store

Apple asked a federal judge to let it take 5–15% when app makers sell through payment links outside Apple's own store, down from the 12–27% it charged after a 2021 court order. The plan offers lower rates to small businesses, mid-range rates for subscriptions and partners, and 15% for top earners. A judge held Apple in contempt last year for still collecting such fees. An appeals court reversed the ban, sending the issue back. The Supreme Court also has the case under docket 25-1311.
