Flock CEO Reverses Course, Adds Mandatory Oversight to License Plate Readers

Flock CEO Garrett Langley admitted the company "got the oversight question wrong" and will make its Audit Assistance feature mandatory, require case codes for all searches, and cut default data retention from 30 days to seven. Langley had previously argued lawmakers should regulate ALPR use; little regulation materialized. The reversal follows documented stalking cases, including a Georgia police chief searching his ex-girlfriend's plate over 500 times.
