NZ and Vietnam launch first vice-ministerial security talks

New Zealand and Vietnam have set up their first vice-ministerial security dialogue — regular talks between senior officials below Cabinet level. The move came during President Tô Lâm's Auckland state visit on 13 August 2026, alongside new funding to fight organised crime in the Mekong region. Both build on last year's Comprehensive Strategic Partnership upgrade.
