NZ and Vietnam agree to regular security talks

New Zealand and Vietnam have agreed to hold regular security talks for the first time. The announcement came during President Tô Lâm's visit to Auckland on 13 August 2026. The two countries also pledged new funding to fight organised crime across the Mekong region in Southeast Asia. Both steps build on a closer partnership agreed last year.
