New Zealand and Vietnam launch first vice ministerial security dialogue

New Zealand and Vietnam have established a vice ministerial security dialogue — a first for the bilateral relationship — alongside fresh funding to tackle transnational and organised crime in the Mekong region. The commitments were announced during President Tô Lâm's state visit to Auckland on 13 August 2026, building on last year's Comprehensive Strategic Partnership upgrade.
