Nepali Guide Rescued After Six Days Lost in Everest's Icefall

Dawa Sherpa, a Nepali mountain guide, was found alive on June 4 after disappearing six days earlier in the Khumbu Icefall—the treacherous broken ice field climbers cross high on Everest. He became separated from his British client while descending between camps around May 29. His client made it down safely; Sherpa did not. Rescue crews located him near Crampon Point with severe frostbite and airlifted him to Kathmandu for treatment. The separation happened as the spring climbing season wound down and equipment was being removed.
