Leadership vote forces cancellation of Queenstown growth deal signing

National's MPs were recalled to Wellington on 12 August 2026 for a leadership confidence vote, prompting the last-minute cancellation of the Queenstown regional growth deal signing. The 10-year contract between the Crown and three Otago councils had been months in negotiation. ACT MP Simon Court said he expected the deal to proceed within weeks. No new date has been set.
