National leadership vote disrupts Queenstown deal signing

National's MPs were called back to Wellington on 12 August 2026 to vote on their leader, forcing the last-minute cancellation of a Queenstown deal signing. The 10-year agreement between the government and three Otago councils had been months in the making. ACT MP Simon Court said he expected it to go ahead within weeks. No new date has been set.
