National's caucus was recalled to Wellington on 12 August 2026 for a leadership confidence vote, forcing the last-minute cancellation of the Queenstown regional growth deal signing. The 10-year growth contract between the Crown and three Otago councils had been months in negotiation. ACT MP Simon Court said he expected the deal to proceed within weeks.
