National leadership vote cancels Queenstown growth deal signing

National's caucus was recalled to Wellington on 12 August 2026 for a leadership confidence vote, forcing the last-minute cancellation of the Queenstown regional growth deal signing. The 10-year growth contract between the Crown and three Otago councils had been months in negotiation. ACT MP Simon Court said he expected the deal to proceed within weeks. No new date has been confirmed.
