Typhoon Dolphin Reaches Beijing After Rare 1,200 km Inland Surge

Typhoon Dolphin, the strongest cyclone to strike China in 2026, flooded central regions and parts of Beijing by August 11 after driving roughly 1,200 kilometers inland from Shanghai. Tropical systems rarely penetrate this far. Hubei Province closed the Three Gorges Dam scenic area and suspended 26 high-risk sites, with up to 250mm of rain forecast in 24 hours.
