Hungary Picks Judge Once Ousted by Orban as President

Hungary's parliament elected Andras Baka, 73, as president in a 140-6 secret ballot boycotted by Viktor Orban's Fidesz party. Baka, nominated by the governing Tisza party, was removed as Supreme Court chief in 2011 after criticizing Orban's judicial reforms. He takes office August 19, replacing Orban ally Tamas Sulyok, ousted by constitutional amendment in July. Tisza also passed an eight-year prime ministerial term limit, blocking Orban's return.
