Hungary Elects Judge Ousted by Orban as President

Hungary's parliament confirmed Andras Baka, 73, as president in a 140-6 secret ballot boycotted by Viktor Orban's Fidesz party. Baka, nominated by the governing Tisza party, was removed as Supreme Court chief in 2011 after criticizing Orban's judicial reforms. He assumes office August 19, replacing Orban appointee Tamas Sulyok, ousted by constitutional amendment in July. Tisza also passed an eight-year prime ministerial term limit, barring Orban's return.
