Timber Fire Quadruples to 1,700 Acres, Forcing Big Sur Evacuations and Highway Shutdown

The Timber Fire, ignited August 9 in Los Padres National Forest, quadrupled from about 400 to over 1,700 acres by Monday evening. Cal Fire reported just 5 percent containment. Evacuation orders cover Big Sur landmarks including Nepenthe restaurant and Alila Ventana resort. The Pacific Coast Highway is closed to non-residents. The cause remains under investigation.
