The Timber Fire, which started August 9 in Monterey County's Los Padres National Forest, quadrupled from roughly 400 to over 1,700 acres by Monday evening. Cal Fire reported 5 percent containment. Evacuation orders cover Big Sur landmarks including Nepenthe restaurant and Alila Ventana resort. The Pacific Coast Highway is closed to non-residents. Cause remains under investigation.
