Trump Administration Shuts Down Major Ocean Monitoring Network
The Trump administration has ordered the Ocean Observatories Initiative dismantled—a network of over 900 sensors monitoring Pacific and Atlantic waters. The NSF is removing equipment from Oregon, Washington, Alaska, North Carolina, and Greenland-Iceland waters over the next 15 months. The program, originally planned to run 25 years, ends after just a decade of operation following the president's firing of the NSF's independent board.
