FBI Proposes System to Track Cars Nationwide in Real Time

The FBI is seeking a contract to access automated license plate reader networks covering 75 percent of the U.S. These systems photograph license plates to help locate wanted persons and missing people. The proposal builds on existing programs serving 46 states, which have found 818 wanted persons and 19 missing individuals. This would create unprecedented national vehicle surveillance coverage.
