FBI Seeks Nationwide Real-Time License Plate Reader Network Covering 75% of U.S.
On May 14, 2026, the FBI published a Request for Proposals for nationwide access to automated license plate reader networks with near real-time data delivery across 75 percent of U.S. locations and territories. The contract establishes an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity framework for the FBI Directorate of Intelligence to track subjects on roads and highways. This builds on existing ALPR systems already serving 46 states and local agencies, which have located 818 wanted persons and 19 missing individuals. The procurement would create unprecedented federal vehicle surveillance coverage spanning the entire country.
