New PM Burnham to look again at early prisoner release

Prime Minister Andy Burnham, on his second day in the job, said he will review a policy of letting prisoners out early to ease overcrowding. Speaking in Bath alongside Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood, he said he could not promise to scrap it but would study it closely. Tens of thousands have been released since September 2024.
