Trump slaps 50 per cent tax on Canadian dairy, alcohol and other goods using obscure old law
Trump placed a 50 per cent tax on Canadian alcohol, dairy and other goods using a 1930s law never before used. The tax starts August 19 and sidesteps the existing trade deal. Carney said Canada will consider responding only if the tax takes effect. He and Trump agreed by phone to push trade talks forward right away.
