Ed Miliband becomes Foreign Secretary as Burnham takes over Labour
Ed Miliband has been made Foreign Secretary, the government's top diplomat. He told reporters outside Downing Street it was "the honour of my life" (BBC, 20 July 2026). He previously handled energy policy since 2024 but has no foreign affairs experience. The move comes as Andy Burnham replaces Sir Keir Starmer as Labour leader.
