Miliband appointed Foreign Secretary as Burnham reshapes Cabinet

Ed Miliband has been appointed Foreign Secretary, telling reporters outside Downing Street it was "the honour of my life to be foreign secretary" (BBC, 20 July 2026). Miliband moves from the Energy Security and Net Zero brief he has held since 2024. He has no prior frontbench foreign affairs experience. The appointment comes as Andy Burnham succeeds Sir Keir Starmer as Labour leader.
